Magical Mystery Cure Review
by JosefuTheFox

I know it's too late to review this, but ever since I saw this episode on the day it came out, I've been seething with anger over the direction the episode took. It wasn't until recently that I found other people who agreed it was a horrible episode and even shared the same opinions as me.

First off, the ABUNDANCE (underline "abundance") of musical numbers was only the FIRST problem I had with this episode. I know it's possible for a song to tell a story, but when it DRAGS DOWN THE PACING along with other such songs, it just becomes torment. Pure, undiluted, torment. I'll admit that I'm not a fan of the songs on this show, although "Winter Wrap Up" and "Smile, Smile, Smile" are just two of the few songs I actually enjoy, and I don't EXPECT these songs to sound like an Alan Menken or Randy Newman musical number, but they could at least TRY to make songs that sound good. In this episode, the songs practically drove me nuts. Again, there were too many, I believe I counted SEVEN songs in total.

And if you think the songs were the ONLY problem with the episode's pacing, then you've got something coming. If anything, this episode must've been the end result of writers asking the question "How can we take two simple story ideas, cram them into one episode with God knows how many songs and make something that moves at an uneven pace?". I have know idea how... but they did. If there weren't so many songs no more than a minute or so apart from each other, maybe there would've been more time to develop a plot or character... maybe even some humor.

Which brings me to the next issue, nothing FUNNY (or at least attempting to be funny) worked. When Pinkie Pie sipped a glass of water just to do a spit take, I just went "Ha ha ha", which is that sarcastic laugh you or somebody else might make just to show how unfunny something is. In fact, the episode ITSELF was practically depressing. When I heard that this episode was going to involve the Cutie Marks being switched around, I expected it to be as humorous yet dramatic as "Too Many Pinkie Pies", but having to sit through a plotline where it was made to be all but DEPRESSING is like a slap to the face for bronies and pegasisters expecting a funny crisis.

I mean... first you have Twilight Sparkle observing and solving the Cutie Mark Crisis (Yeah, I just HAD to go there, people), which was literally solved like eight minutes before the episode was about to end, and then the real SPIT TO THE EYE of every brony and pegasister heads your way. Because Twilight cured a magic spell, that makes her an Alicorn Princess! Oooh, how delightful... NOT! If I recall correctly, Cutie Marks represent a pony's TALENT, not their destiny or whatever this episode was trying to shove down our throats. Here, the fact that Cutie Marks represent talent is ABANDONED in favor of a contrived, useless and disgustingly terrible message, "Because of the things you do, your destiny is to become royalty!". Seriously, this is like one of the stereotypes that Lauren Faust said the show would NOT employ, I repeat, the show would NOT employ.

What kind of a message is that to teach our kids, you horrible script made of used toilet paper? NOBODY becomes ROYALTY because of the VERY GOOD THINGS they do for other people! The only possible way for a civilian to BECOME royalty is to MARRY a PRINCE OR PRINCESS! In fact, if Twilight Sparkle's now a princess, doesn't that make Celestia a queen? OK, this may anger a lot of you, but I've always observed that Celestia looks like she doesn't do much at all. On several occasions, she's seemingly proven that she's useless. Hell, she practically spends a lot of her time looking like she's posing for a perfume commercial or something.

I put in my two cents expecting something mediocre at best, but NOTHING, and I most certainly mean NOTHING, as bad as this!

Bottom line, it's horrible. It's horrible because it's a contrived plot containing two stories that really should've been aired seperately. If this is meant to be an exciting, new plot that'll open up a new, undiscovered world of possibilites, I'd hate to see how Season 4 will turn out.

In fact, because of this episode, I am pessimistic to see how Season 4 will go. If it goes even FARTHER downhill than Season 3, then I may as well leave this whole "brony" thing for good.

The End.
Here I am, having put in my two cents for this GOD-AWFUL episode of an otherwise AWESOME show!

The only other thing I can say is that Twilight Sparkle saying "Something tells me everything is NOT going to be fine" pretty much sums up the episode.

Apparently, Lauren Faust isn't the one to BLAME for this god-awful episode.
I heard that Faust was booted out of MLP FiM and Hasbro took over.
That's why the show is getting bad.
